Falling Bodies Apparatus

• Two identical steel balls are released at the same instant: the spring-loaded striker knocks one ball sideways while the other simply drops. Though one flies forward and one falls straight down, both hit the floor together, showing that horizontal and vertical motion are independent and that the time of fall depends only on height.
